WHEW - This week went pretty good. I tried to stay to the new routine of getting my homework done early in the week although it was a bit more difficult since Monday ended up filled with eating out and going for a shopping trip. Finished a research paper on the radium dial painting industry on Saturday - go me. Hopefully that will yield a good grade. I haven't heard back from my first exam though - I wonder what is holding him up on grading and returning those....
I did take some time Monday night after the family was settled in to finish off the Angel Hair Scarf. I think it looks pretty good..... granted, now that the man thinks its too feminine, I have no idea what to do with it. Oh well - it's really just a topic I can't let go of. Once the scarf has a new home, I'll let go of the idea that I picked a bad color for the man *laughs*
I spent some more time on the poncho and it is progressing nicely. It is several inches longer than what it was on Wednesday in my WIP Wednesday vlog.
The picture is on my drive-by model (I think she was headed outside to play some more when I stopped her and made her put it on). The poncho is for a full grown female so the size may seem a little sloppy for this tiny model of mine *laughs*
The color and flow is really coming out nicely. I think the recipient will really like it.
I have a few more rows to add to it before adding the edging rows and the neck hole. I just finished my first skein and tied in my second. I got a lot of mileage out of one skein.
Let's see - what else.
Oh, did I mention I am seriously addicted to yarn?
I went shopping and found some really cute self-patterned yarn from Sensations brand. I had to have it and before starting my research paper, I had to do a few rows.
If you look over the brown row, you'll see a few splotches of light green. Basically the pattern is a blue row, brown row, a white field with hints of floral, and then repeat. I have no idea what I'm making other than a child-size scarf just so I can see the pattern unfold.
How sad is that? Has anyone out there bought a yarn just so you could see the pattern? And literally just start knitting or crocheting so you can see it - no real plans on the finished item? Should I be ashamed and never admit to it again?
*laughs*
Other than that, the list continues to grow as I do dumb things like buy self-patterning yarn but the project list percentage is actually pretty good. Once I finish the poncho, I'll have another big jump in the overall project percentage. The total percentage continues to fluctuate because I continue to add projects outside the original list.
Oh well - its all about having fun with it, yes?
Have a great day everyone!!!

The poncho is coming along nicely. I too love to buy patterned yarn and just start in on it to watch the pattern unfold. And I never have a recepient in mind when I start it either but usually it finds a home when someone comes over and raves over it. Works everytime.
The poncho looks good, nice colours. I like the idea of making something and not nowin what it is.....look forward to seeing it develop!
Thanks, Marsha! I am glad to know I'm not the only one that does that *laughs* I am really starting to get into the Sensations brand of yarn. It seems as if Joann's is slowly introducing it into the mix and I really like what I'm seeing so far.
Thanks! I hope the recipient likes the colors too. Hopefully I'll have a little more to share on the self-patterning yarn soon :)
Yep, I frequently buy yarn for no reason other than its colors and then work it up into something/nothing just to see how the pattern develops. Sometimes it becomes something but more often it gets frogged and reworked once I know what the yarn does.
The poncho is coming along nicely; the colours are so rich that they glow. I'll admit that I like self-patterning yarn for socks. I actually knit faster because I keep wanting to see what will happen next!
Wow, impressive work! I'm going to check out that Ravelry group. :)
I think there should be more swatches to see how the yarn knits or crochets up. Interesting yarn there. Like the poncho.
Poncho is looking good. I like that pattern and would be interested to know if its available on the web anywhere. I've bought yarn just for the pattern - Bernat Baby Jacquards. I started a baby's sweater but didn't like the way the pattern repeated right up to the neck - it just looked too much, so I frogged it and have it put aside to make a few baby's hats.
Hey there, Dorothy. The pattern I'm using is actually a freebie pattern I pulled off one of those "take one" things at Hobby Lobby. The pattern is by Lion Brand for homespun yarn (but I'm sure you could use whatever you liked) - it's called the Crochet "Coming Home" Scallop-edge Poncho. There are several sizes on Ravelry :) I am really enjoying it and its working up pretty fast. Let me know if you make one, I'd love to see your final piece.
There are a lot of swatches at our stores, I just think its a yarn they are slowly filtering into the store so no swatch. The label shows a good picture of it - I just was rushed to do it myself hehe
It's a great group :P
I find I work a lot faster when I'm wanting to see some color change or pattern appear :P
This yarn will most likely get frogged and put into socks :) I love it though - awesome self-patterning .. pattern :P
I have bought yarn because I loved it and wanted to see what it would look like worked up, too. The poncho is looking great!
Love the poncho and yes, I totally get that yarny knitting for the sake of it - I bought MASSIVE needles and blanket-scrap-yarn to knit with them on the weekend and I just knitted for the joy of it and then pulled it out - I have no idea what I'll make with it!
:)
