Whelp, I began work on the Easy Cabled Scarf pattern originally posted to my project list. I frogged it 2 or 3 times before getting a good start on it, then deciding I didn't really like it. What I did was the pattern itself was not wide enough for me so I thought I'd just do the cable 3 times to make a wider scarf... well, I did not like how it was working out and I'm sure it had a lot to do with my knitting tightly and doing a 4 stitch pass on the cable. It puckered too much for me.
Scarf Progress as of 07/09/2011 |
In the last week, while working on my simple cabled scarf, I learned how to do continental knitting with knit and purl stitches, how to add a new skein to the project, and how to rip down rows and not have to rip the whole thing out! It has been an interesting knit filled week.

Wah! Those paperclip Ice Skate ornaments are adorable! LOVE them! Your list is very organized. :) I think I'll have some questions for you early in the week.
Thanks, Keri - this is about the only way that I can keep track of what I'm doing *laughs* And sadly, the only finished items I have so far are things not on the list *DOH* :) I am looking forward to your email :)
You're my first visitor and commentor in the challenge. I'm going to start a separate list/bloglog for those in the challenge. So you'll be the first to start that. Sorry about the frogging with our cables, but glad you're happy with where things are now. You're ahead of me on that, as you noted learning to do a cable is one of the items on my list. Looked over your list and had to click on the iceskate paper clip, couldn't imagine what it was and or why you would have so many on your list. How adorable....I added it to my que on Rav. Suppose I should now add it to my list, just remember....it's all your fault. lol
Also wanted to ask if you would add my charity to your charity links area. It's a blog dedicated to helping homeless and those in need. Please check it out and let me know what you think. Many thanks, http://homelessbridge.blogspot.com/, sometimes adding an url in the comment section doesn't work, so if it doesn't the badge for Bridge and Beyond is on my regular page, Sandy's Space.
The cables are a challenge for me but I really am glad I tried them. It took a while but I'll end up going back and attacking the original pattern when I can loosen up a bit to prevent that pucker :) And you can't blame me for the ornaments *laughs* But they are adorable, aren't they! I put a lot on because I work with a lot of people hehehehe I think it'll be a quick pattern to work up and easy to giveaway at work.
Absolutely! I have followed Bridge and Beyond for quite some time. I love seeing all the donations and have planned to donate as soon as I got some things done :) I'm flattered to have you commenting on my blog! I love the work you do with Bridge and Beyond - it is honorable you organize this. You are a generous woman!
Did you find a helpful video to show you how to do the continental knitting method?
I frogged a knitted scarf recently but like you it was a good opportunity to learn contintental knitting and some basic fixing skills so it wasn't really time wasted. Good luck with all your lovely projects!
Actually, I did not. There is a lady in my Wednesday yarn group that does continental so I have been watching her from a far (like a video) hehehe This next week I'm going to ensure that I'm wrapping my yarn correctly because it does seem like I get a bit of a hole with some of my purling, so I'm not sure if its just me learning (and being too loose with it) or me being forgetful on the placement of my yarn before a purl OR if I'm just doing it wrong altogether.
Love the color!
Isn't it frustrating? I do that a lot. I will start a project and have to frog it and then start another. That's how I find the patterns I like.
I'm doing the year of projects as well, and I really like how you've set out your post with percentages and the categories. I might have to copy you, I hope you don't mind! Your cabled scarf is looking great as well!
Sounds like a great learning week for you--and yay you being able to just figure out a pattern of your own.I love the color too!
*smiles*
wow it sounds like you have been crrrrrrraaaaaaaazy busy! Lovin that scarf, looking great!
Those paperclip ice skate ornaments are adorable - I've added them to my queue! Sounds like you had a bunch of things to overcome to get to this point on your scarf. Good for you for sticking with it!
Love your scarf and will look forward to seeing the pattern.
Great week for your knitting skills - frogging certainly serves a purpose :)
Whoops - sorry, that was my comment but I deleted my old account on Disqus
That's a lot of new skills, looking forward to seeing your finished object
