There has been another shift in the list - I finished the Spidey-inspired round ripple afghan for my grandson. I'm very excited to have it done and have already started hooking on the Navajo Indian Multi-Color Afghan for my brother - I have that listed as a birthday gift BUT if I get it done soon enough, it will be a Christmas present. I'd prefer it be a Christmas present, but we shall see.

First, before I go on with anything else - here is a picture of the Spidey Round Ripple.  I did not have a space big enough to lay it out. It is significantly larger than the round ripple baby afghan I made a month or so ago for a co-worker. It covers a little more than half of a twin size bed. From this project, I also created a video tutorial on how to do the surface crochet on top of a round ripple (found here).

I added another item to the Added Items area of the list too - a Harry Potter scarf. Red Heart has started doing team spirit yarn - a two tone yarn that stripes itself - so I found the gold and burgundy and figured I'd make a scarf - if not for me, I know my son would love one. I am thinking of going back and grabbing the other Hogwart colors because I'm nerdy and fun that way. I'd love to have a Hufflepuff scarf.

I have to admit that I'm a little nervous about getting all my Christmas crafting done in time for the holiday. We just started September and I have an afghan on the hooks - and honestly, this afghan is going to be a BEAST... wait, I already used that phrase for the State Fair project.... uhm.... this one is going to be a nightmare - why, you ask? Because I had to increase the size significantly to suit my brother. My brother is 6'7" and his wife is about 6' tall. So for this blanket to work for them, I had to make it a good 7 foot wide. After working about 5 hours on it, I have about 3 inches done. It is done in single crochet with a drop double .... it's definitely going to take a while - this is primarily why I listed this item as a birthday present.

But what makes this blanket special is my grandmother, the same one I have blogged about numerous times already, made this exact pattern for him when he was a boy. I remember that blanket and can see it when I close my eyes - it was part of his childhood. I don't know where the afghan went but I do know he doesn't have it anymore. One day, when I was going through Ravelry, I saw it - and immediately knew I had to make one for my brother. Right now, I'm three color changes into the pattern and I have had so many memories come back to me - I know I'll be blogging about the experience very soon.

As far as progress is concerned - I think I'm going to have to do at least 1 color change a day to have a shot at finishing this thing on time.

The only other thing I know I must get done in the next week is a requested video tutorial. JB asked for this tutorial quite a bit ago but medical issues and some other work related things have kept me from doing it. I attempted to do the tutorial last week - what happened was I decided to do the tutorial outside for lighting.... and it started raining when I was about 3/4 of the way through. I haven't had much luck since then - the surface crochet tutorial went ok.... but the hat.... not so much. *frowns*

I'll get it done though - I am persistent!

Sooooo other than all that, I don't have  much more to talk about so I'll leave you with the detailed list of what I have on the list, what I have added, and of those categories - what is done.

Awesome Spidey blanket and I just love that you're making the childhood blanket for your brother - shame he's so tall!

What an amazing gift idea. I am sure it will be even more meaningful to him because it replicates the blanket from grandmother. Good luck - big afghans are always nightmareish but I know I feel super accomplished when they are finished!

LOVE the Spidey ripple! Bet your grandson loves it too!
I made a Gryffindor scarf last Christmas (http://www.ravelry.com/projects/lynnw63/hogwarts-scarf) and I have a couple of iron-on Gryffindor patches left over. If you PM me through Ravelry, or email me, I'll mail them to you :)

Like the spidey blanket. I think it's so sweet that you are making a blanket for your brother. How are things going? We haven't chatted in quite some time.

Amazing Spidey ripple! Lucky, lucky Grandson. Same goes for your brother and I am sure when you complete his gift it will be equally amazing. Hope your week was great--I am visiting everyone late this week.
