This last week showed a bit of progress in my knitting - I knit my first hat... on circular needles. That was really exciting for me, actually. I didn't use a pattern. I just knew that if I k/p over a set number of stitches that I'd get ribbing - and then if I just decreased in a pattern, like I do crochet, I'd have to get the top of the hat. I knew how to cast off from my daughter's loom knitting - so my hat was made.

It may not be the best hat (or the best picture, and I already gave it to the recipient's mother-in-law so I can't retake it) but it will serve it's purpose well. It is soft and seamless which means it should help her son-in-law sleep. It will be functioning as a chemo cap for the next how ever many months he will be going through treatment.

I got word back from my friend, his mother-in-law, that he loves the hat I made. In fact, he asked if I could make him another one - this one in his university colors. I am so glad that he likes it and that it serving its function well.

As for the hat - I think it turned out ok.

I also continued to crochet dishcloths and I was able to whip up a crochet hat and matching scarf.

On top of that, I finished off my daughter's sock monkey hat. I had not made a character hat before and I think it turned out pretty well. Considering she is not one to read my blog, I can post the picture without worry of her finding out. I almost got caught making it twice - hopefully she really didn't see anything.

But I'm glad to have that done. The top, although you can't see it in the photo, is cream colored. I did not use a pattern for this, although I do think I'll be writing it up - I particularly thought the ears turned out really spiffy. I am not 100% on how I did the tassles, but I'm sure that will just come with practice.

With that said - I leave you with my relatively boring list of items.

The sock monkey hat is really cute, and funny! And so are the paperclip ice skate ornaments from your list, by the way, those are adorably dorky. So much so, in fact, that I may have to make a few to decorate the house with!

Looks like a very practical hat; and isn't that what guys usually want? I know DH likes things in classic patterns like that. Besides hats always look better when on someone's head rather than sitting on a counter. If he's asked for another and dictated a colour scheme, then it's an absolute hit!

Isn't it great when your work is appreciated, and especially by someone who needs something cozy right now.

The hats are great! Congratulations on knitting in the round, isn't it great the way the stocking stitch just appears without a single purl stitch needed?

Good luck and best wishes to the young man undergoing chemo. I'm sure the hat will help restore comfort and spirits.

Both hats are wonderful, best of luck on the chemo.  That's such a hard thing to go through.

Both hats are great, that's brave trying something new and not using a pattern. I love the sock monkey hat what a great idea.

The sock monkey hat looks super authentic; good job!
Congrats on your first, knitted hat.  I'm sure your tomodachi's mil looks nice in it.
